Going back to the Saadian Dynasty, Dakka Marrakchia is considered a musical genre for male groups and is produced by polyrhythmic percussion and choral chants and lots of humor.

It was a favorite last year, being with a local family at their house, meeting the aunts, grandma, neighbors, kids and adults, delicious tea and cookies and a humorist and spiritual driving music

(I know, for some humorist and spiritual are two separate concepts- here it is ONE!)

After lunch you will begin your afternoon with exploring the Ourika Valley, where you will visit the traditional Berber Souks, as well as the Jewish shrine of the kabalist Rabbi Shlimo ben Lhench. (“Ouirika Garden” situated on the hill side of “Berber Country” , beautiful facility and a very serene and relaxing place to be in. It’s a small privately owned, special, artistic facility, we’ll share rooms and optional to sleep under the sky… “Dangerous place”- no one wanted to leave last year…

sometimes acrobatic dancing. The music is both a prayer and a celebration of life. Though many of the influences that formed this music can be traced to sub-Saharan Africa, and specifically, the Western Sahel, its practice is concentrated in North Africa, mainly Morocco.

The specific band is BEST Gnaoua music I’ve ever heard. These musicians live in a Gnaoua village and for generations are professional musicians to support the village community. Rhythms, melodies, chanting, praying and dancing. Need anything more?

Day 9: June 8, Fez

Undeniably fascinating, Fez stimulates the senses with its haunting yet beautiful sounds, visual splendor, and evocative smells. The most ancient of imperial capitals and the most complete medieval city of the Islamic world, Fez is reminiscent of a city suspended in time, unfazed by the constantly evolving world outsides its walls, owing nothing to the Western world save electricity. Time spent in Fez will reveal much about the sophistication of the Moroccan artisan, providing an unparalleled learning experience to those who cross its path. Your morning will be spent visiting the Medina. You will break for lunch at a typical Moroccan restaurant and will continue to explore and shop for the remainder of the day. Return to your hotel for dinner then we will transfer you to the Bath’a Museum and/or Bab Makina for the Sacred Music festival concerts.

Mugical Morocco -Extension- June 8-17/ 2012

The  World Sacred Music Festival in fes has been a wonderful experience in past, and is going to be very special this year with so many great musicians and events which I personally admire and interested in, including: Ck out more details http://www.fesfestival.com

After the 10 days tour of Morocco, filled with awaken senses of sitescolorssmells, views and explorations of variety music and “on the go”… I find that when arriving Fes, I liked to slow down the pace, have time for oneself to explore locally and enjoy the daily concerts. So, thatʼs how I planned the “Extension” to be: Weʼll be lodged in a very welcoming and cozy hotel or Riad close to where the concerts take place. Weʼll have mostly free and personal time to rest, to sit at a coffee shop or a restaurant and people watch, to wonder the Medina, the markets, to make local friends and each will choose the concerts they desire to attend. Weʼll have few day trips as in itinerary below (and expect changes) and if anyone is interested in visiting a certain place or event- weʼll do our best to accommodate you. (we can hire a driver and a guide for personal trips-for a fee.)
